Uber’s insurance coverage for drivers depends on their status at the time of the accident:

• When the Driver is Online and Available for a Trip - If an accident occurs while the Uber driver is online, but has not accepted a ride, Uber will provide third-party liability insurance with the following limits:

  • $100,000 per accident for injuries, and
  • $25,000 for property damage per accident.
• Drivers must rely on their personal auto insurance coverage for any additional coverage needs or damages to their own vehicles. Uber’s coverage does not apply if the driver is not actively taking rides or logged onto the app.
• When the Driver is En Route to Pick Up a Passenger or During a Trip - Once a driver accepts a ride or is transporting a passenger to their destination, Uber’s insurance increases to include:
  • $1,000,000 in coverage for injuries and property damage for third parties.
  • Contingent collision and comprehensive coverage up to the vehicle’s actual cash value, with a $2,500 deductible (This is only applicable if the driver’s personal insurance includes collision and comprehensive coverage).
• Uber also offers coverage for injuries that are sustained in hit-and-run accidents or those caused by uninsured/underinsured drivers. In some states, including Nevada, drivers can opt for Optional Injury Protection, which covers medical expenses and lost wages regardless of who is at fault for the accident.

When the Driver is Offline - If the Uber app is offline, Uber’s insurance does not apply to any accidents that occur.
