16th Traffic-Related Death in the LVMPD’s Jurisdiction (2023)

Summary of the Accident

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) states that a multi-vehicle collision occurred on West Flamingo Road west of the intersection with South Tenaya Way at 5:01 p.m. on February 26, 2023. 

As stated in the original press release from the LVMPD, “Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated a black 2019 Chevrolet Colorado was traveling westbound on Flamingo Road in the center of three westbound travel lanes (T2). A white 2013 Ford Taurus was preparing to make a left turn from the single left turn lane (L1) of Flamingo Road into the private drive of 7400 West Flamingo Road. A blue 2022 Amigo Speedy 50 was stopped in the southbound exit driveway of 7400 West Flamingo Road, preparing to make a right turn onto westbound Flamingo Road. A collision occurred when the Ford made a left turn across the Chevrolet’s path of travel. The left front of the Chevrolet struck the right front of the Ford, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. The impact redirected the Chevrolet to the northwest and into the stopped Amigo. None of the involved drivers showed signs of impairment.”

Furthermore, “All occupants of the Ford and Chevrolet sustained injuries and were transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance for further medical attention. Medical personnel at the hospital determined the Ford passenger’s injuries were life-threatening, he remains in critical condition. The rider of the Amigo reported sustaining minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.”

UPDATE: February 26, 2023 at 11:01 p.m.

In an update from LVMPD officials, “..the LVMPD Collision Investigations Section was notified that despite lifesaving efforts, the passenger in the Ford succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. His death marks the 16th traffic-related death in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2023. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigations Section.”
